Hello everyone,

the last grass seed has sprouted, the shrubs are planted and hopefully withstand the continuous rain.
So far, due to my parents-in-law's gardening business, we have only used petrol-powered equipment in the garden. Gradually, these are giving up the ghost due to age, and in the private sector, we only need a ride-on mower.
However, it does not get cleanly to the terrace edges or the shrubs. Therefore, we are looking for a battery-powered grass trimmer.
We have a trimmer, but I don’t like to use it very much. Especially since I then have to clean the paths afterwards.

Who among you has a battery-powered grass trimmer that can also handle thicker clumps? So far, we have looked at Bosch and Gardena in the hardware store. But allegedly, nothing beats the ones from Makita. What are your experiences?

We received a Ryobi cordless shear as a gift. It worked quite well when it was really sharp, but after about a year, pulling grass is almost faster. However, I haven't yet figured out how to properly take it apart to sharpen it again. That's why I have now switched back to the electric trimmer.

Same here ... The purchased battery-powered shears had to give way to a battery trimmer. It was simply not effective enough and small stones kept jamming the cutting mechanism.

Doesn't sound very pleasant.

I had a Gardena from the neighbor in use and I have one from Bosch myself. They are not much different. They work, but not quite as one might possibly imagine beforehand. Especially when it's already a bit taller. When it comes to trimmers, I am still undecided. Effectiveness versus mess. And I wouldn't use a cheap one here either. I once borrowed one and spent more time winding/untangling the line than trimming. Maybe there will simply be a classic lawn shears.

Depending on the amount of lawn edges to be trimmed & around the bushes, of course. If it is quite a lot like with us, using the hand grass shears is many times more laborious than sweeping away the debris from trimming.
