Hello everyone,

I am facing the following problem: In my new kitchen, I had a beautiful ceramic countertop installed (cost: 2000 EUR). I wanted a cooktop with an integrated extractor. On the recommendation of the kitchen builder, I had a flush-mounted cooktop from manufacturer X installed, which proved to be of poor quality after half a year. I would now like to switch to a cooktop from the brand Siemens or something similar.

The problem now is that cooktops from other manufacturers have different dimensions and the routed opening is too large. A new countertop would be absolutely crazy (considering costs and waste of resources).

How is such a problem usually handled? Unfortunately, the installation dimensions of cooktops do not seem to be standardized. It can't be that you need a new countertop every time you change a cooktop, right? Do you have experience with this and maybe some tips that could help me with the decision?

Thanks in advance!!

Usually, you solve something like this with adapter frames. Either something suitable off the shelf, if it's a common combination, or something custom-made by the metalworker from stainless steel or the like.

Is it too big in only one dimension or in both? If only in one, I could imagine making a virtue out of necessity and using it as a kind of insert where you can place utensils or pot lids in use (on the right or left). Or a power strip (of course with a cover) at the front or back. My wife always complains that the sockets on the wall (the cooktop is in front of the window in our case) are always too far away from the cooktop (she always needs the hand blender for her soups). That means I will have to cut a hole in the countertop again soon and then install a power strip.

It is about 1 cm too wide.

Ok, that's obviously a stupid gap. Too big to work with just silicone, too small to start something else with it. I don't know if it's possible, but I could imagine that you can get it visually very close to the ceramic with stone flour and resin or something like that. Something like artificial stone on site. Maybe you'll find something there, sorry, I can't think of anything else.

Go to YouTube and search for "Ausschnitt für das Kochfeld zu groß?" by M1Molter. A good solution to the problem is shown there. Best regards
