We were in a show house and the controlled residential ventilation in the utility room was quite loud. The door was not soundproofed. Is it normal to hear the controlled residential ventilation then also in the hallway and even in the living area? Is there something that can be done, like turning it down, soundproofing measures, or are there different systems where some are quieter?

So... it always depends on the device... What else was active in the utility room? A combined heating/ventilation unit is very popular in some show homes - whether that makes sense is another question, which can look different in each individual case. Then there's always the question of what the homeowner wants to sell. In one show home in one of the show home parks, a [Controlled residential ventilation system without heat recovery] was running - set so that you could clearly hear it - this homeowner did not want to install a [Controlled residential ventilation system]. In another, a system was running that you couldn't hear at all. In a third, a heating-ventilation system was running that was only audible at the highest setting... The system installed in our house was at least no longer audible outside the utility room in other houses...

Can you please, preferably in a private message, tell me your device? Possibly also the level at which you cannot hear the system...

I would argue that this is less a question of the device and more a question of proper and professional installation. Sometimes it comes down to small details, and if the executing company slacks off there, the sound simply transfers to other resonating bodies and becomes more audible.

Our controlled residential ventilation, for example, is attached to the only KS wall in the entire house - and even at the highest setting it is inaudible unless you are standing right next to it.

You can only hear ours on the highest level in the utility room and nowhere else.

We even sleep above our utility room, all the supply and discharge pipes for the upper floor run under the screed in the bedroom and we hear - nothing!
