Hello dear forum members!

I have some questions about a flooring combination of tiles and real wood parquet, I hope you can maybe answer some of them. :-)

We will be purchasing a single-family house soon. On the ground floor, there is a large "L"-shaped room, with the kitchen on one side and the dining/living area on the other. Currently, large tiles (approx. 30x80cm) are laid throughout the entire room, but in the dining-living area they are oriented differently (90 degrees, and a different color, but of course that doesn’t matter ;-).

Since we find parquet more pleasant and homely, we would like to replace the tiles in the dining and living area with oak parquet. Of course, we know that this is not a one-day job, you naturally have to:

[*]remove baseboards, cut the edge to the tiles in the kitchen, chisel out the tiles in the dining-living area
[*]“repair” the screed, i.e. level again, correct, ... probably has to be done by a company, I can’t imagine doing that yourself

[*]and finally lay the parquet with adhesive, i.e. glue it down.

Both rooms have underfloor heating in the screed, although I currently (still) don’t know if a separate heating circuit was installed in the dining and living area, I rather suspect not. Now my questions :-)

[*]Can heating technology cause problems if different floor coverings are on one heating circuit, in our case tiles and the new parquet?
[*]Does something specific need to be observed or considered when "repairing" the screed?
[*]Should the oak parquet planks best be laid lengthwise (of the room) or parallel to the width? The dining-living area where the parquet is to be laid is approx. 5x10m in size.
[*]Should the possibility of laying the parquet "floating" also be considered?
[*]Is there anything against aluminum strips at the edge between tiles and parquet, where the strip has a 90-degree angle, one side against the tiles, on the other side lies the parquet, with a silicone joint between the strip and the parquet?

Thank you very much for your help, I’m already looking forward to your answers! :-)

Best regards from Steyr, Austria Patrick

Hello Patrick, first of all the question whether the information about your date of birth can be correct??? Please complete your profile according to the requirements, then we will talk further. Thank you.

Hello Neige! :-)

I have completed my profile as far as possible here on the mobile site!

Of course, I am not 14 (I can no longer change the date of birth afterwards, there was probably an error), I am 26 years old.

Best regards Patrick

Thank you very much. Regarding your question. Whether different floor coverings are disadvantageous with a single heating circuit, I cannot answer off the cuff. However, the fact is that stone floors conduct heat better than wooden floors. I hope that reads the thread and can provide you with information. I would not recommend laying it floating. Have you considered possibly installing parquet in the kitchen area as well?

The height could also play a role. Parquet is usually thicker than tiles. I always find such a tripping edge in the room ugly.

Thank you for your answers! :-)

In the kitchen, we would like to leave the tiles as they are.

I understand that a 100% level transition from tile to parquet will not be possible, hence the idea of a "clean" edge using an aluminum strip with a 90-degree angle, as described above.
