A "curb" only as deep as the terrain difference sounds rather tight to me. The viscosity of soil masses is often underestimated. How certain are the neighbor's plans regarding their terrain height at all?

The granite things are also available wider. 20 seems too little to me as well. 40 would be better.

Hello? You make the foundation deeper. That is a fraction of the cost. But even that is not necessary in my opinion.

Thank you for the detailed answers :) We will probably take granite curbstones now. However, I have one more question about the concrete for the curbstones. Should I add sand, pebbles, or crushed stone here?

I found two contradictory statements on the internet about mixing concrete; which one would you recommend?

Option 1

[*]Press the start button and let the mixer run
    [*]Add four units of gravel
    [*]Add one unit of cement
[*]Gradually mix in water until the mixture reaches a slightly glossy consistency

Option 2

[*]Pour in two thirds of the water while the concrete mixer is running
    [*]Add gravel
    [*]Add cement
    [*]Add the remaining water
[*]Let the concrete mixer run for three to four minutes at the end
