Hello,

In my new building, I have a combined kitchen, dining, and living room area. In the kitchen area, there is an expansion joint and also one in the living area itself. In the kitchen, exactly where an island is supposed to be. In the living room, also in the middle of the room. Very annoying.

I want to install my click vinyl flooring floating and have two questions. Additionally, I am using a 2mm thick impact sound insulation:

1. Can I simply lay my click vinyl flooring with the additional 2mm impact sound insulation over both expansion joints? Or can I place a joint in the vinyl in a different location that fits better?

2. Can I mount the kitchen and island on the vinyl? Or should I have the kitchen installed and then lay the flooring?

Thanks for your tips and knowledge.

Doesn't really matter. But why vinyl and why floating?

We like the vinyl by far the best and floating so that it can expand and contract.

After installing the screed, we "clamped" the joints with resin, glued the vinyl, and after 1.5 years have not been able to detect any cracks so far. However, I believe I read back then that click vinyl does not tolerate the weight of the kitchen very well and should preferably be installed up to the kitchen. Keyword underfloor heating and impact sound insulation (insulated?)

Have you ever considered glued vinyl?

With floating installation, you don’t have to worry about the joint, it will float over it anyway. Lay click vinyl up to the kitchen, otherwise nothing will float in the kitchen anymore. I have installed click vinyl throughout our entire house (except the bathroom) and would do it again if I built another house. Especially if you do it yourself, I saw advantages in it compared to gluing. But everyone as they like.

@"Adam26a":
Can you post a complete floor plan of the ground floor and first mark the planned screed movement joints?
I would like to take a look at the joint planning.
But here are my two statements already:
With underfloor heating, an adhesive floor covering is preferable. The impact sound insulation that you are planning additionally can be omitted in glued constructions, as it is not useful. The effective impact sound insulation is located under the screed!
For floating constructions, it is advisable to align them with kitchen islands, so that the kitchen island is not placed on the floating construction. As already pointed out by "DeepRed", heavy loads, insofar as they cannot compensate for their length change elsewhere on the floor area, should be treated with caution. If nothing can move, the stresses in the floating-applied covering will increase. This means: waves in the floor plane.
------------
But first send the joint planning.
