Hello everyone,

according to our development plan, a cistern must be installed. From an economic perspective, it will not be worthwhile; if I had the choice, I would waive it.

Now I have received the following offers, all-inclusive (excavation, pump, etc., everything included)
1. 5200 liter cistern, 7k€
2. 2600 liter cistern, 6k€

There is also the option to install only the cistern, without usage, to meet the requirements of the development plan. With both offers, I would save 1k € each for the pump, etc. But I would have something buried in the ground for 6k-7k without any benefit. That’s somehow hard for me.

In any case, I would only use the cistern for garden irrigation, watering area max. 220m². A garden meter will be installed in any case, fees per m³ are about 2€.

For me, only the economic aspect counts. Which option is the most economical? I’m leaning towards the 2600 liter cistern. Or rather just bury the cistern without usage?

Many thanks in advance.

Take the 5cbm and save yourself the garden water meter. Burying a cistern without connection, I consider to be highly foolish.

We paid about 5K for a roughly 5000-liter concrete cistern. Estimated including proportional earthworks and piping for the domestic water system included in the package. We had to forcibly connect the toilet flush, washing machine optional (2 taps), only this way do you even have a chance that it makes commercial sense (but that was not our concern). I cannot imagine that a plastic cistern with around 3000 liters, which is cheaper than the concrete version, is NOT SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper. Personally, I find the prices excessive :-(

If I may ask, in which year was that, and also in southern Germany?

Thank you, I am aware that it is not worthwhile from an economic point of view. Therefore, it also hurts to have to spend so much money.
