In the attached image, the floor plan of our upstairs is shown (South is at the bottom) If the ceilings are not lowered, a room height of about 3.50 meters would result at the north wall. Would you lower the ceilings or leave them open? And why?

Leave open! The room width allows for it

Unfortunately, I cannot do it in the living room because only the area outlined in red would remain open, and I think that doesn’t look good. Are there any ideas on how to make meaningful use of these ceiling heights in the children's rooms as well?

Depending on the age of the children, the bed could be placed on a raised platform with ladder access (loft bed), creating a living and play area underneath.

You have more shelf space or simply a nice picture higher up. Apart from the fact that you can place a raised bed or a cave or just a second level, not everything has to be sensible. If you can’t get enough of the spaciousness and above all the airiness of the rooms, then it simply “only” has this purpose. Style and uniqueness also drive up the resale value.

The corner will look chic in the living area too! These are the possibilities and advantages of a roof with a low pitch, that you can showcase something special at the top – and not a plain ceiling, which everyone knows as normal and no longer notices.
