Can Tesla batteries be used as home storage?

Good day!

I am quite satisfied with my car in general, but I simply can no longer justify continuing to drive a Tesla. Therefore, the following consideration: instead of selling a four-year-old Model 3 with around 150,000 km, one could theoretically have the battery removed and installed in a weatherproof enclosure, and then place it as a home storage system behind the garage. And cover the garage (about 70 square meters) with photovoltaic panels.

Does anyone know what a new 55-kWh battery storage system would cost? That would get you quite far, wouldn’t it? Is there anything else to consider?

Thank you, Matthias!

If you're talking about Musk: You supported him when you bought your car. You can't un-buy it. What are you going to do with the car body? I would drive it until the vehicle's demise, then see how to dispose of the battery and then buy new from better people… whoever finds sarcasm…

No idea. But the person who takes your car will say: "I need a new battery for 15-20k." So at best, give me some money so that I can "buy" your car. There are conversions described online. Around 10k, since you also need a different voltage, etc. And finally: You can only operate the battery as an off-grid system. Due to lack of certification (missing CE marking), connection to the grid is prohibited as far as I know. Tesla also lacks the battery management system. For temperatures below 9 degrees, you probably also need a battery heater, because otherwise the battery will no longer accept any current. So yes, you can use it. But no, it’s not practical. And if it is for you, then it involves a lot of technical effort. Are you such an IT/power freak?

Ok, it was just an idea... I had already suspected that it wouldn't make sense. Then I will at least put a label on the back saying that I couldn't have known any of this in 2020...

Why?

What is your problem?

Sell the car, buy another one, and approach the topic of photovoltaics separately.

In my opinion, every Tesla automatically advertises for Musk.
