Can Styrodur 3035 CS used from a demolition be reused?

Hello everyone,

Today, to our surprise, we discovered that we had a pile of used Styrodur boards on our property. I'm a bit perplexed... I assume these are intended to be used for the base insulation. It somewhat looks like they came from a house demolition... can these simply be installed like that? Some of them are already quite battered... on the other hand, if they fully serve their purpose, they wouldn't need to be newly produced because of us.

Thanks for your assessment
Best regards

Just spoke with the site manager again - he said that the boards indeed come from a demolition but (except for the very damaged ones) can still be used). He said that these are glued with construction foam - is that normal? A second topic was the strip foundations - steel fiber concrete was used instead of the ring beam - is that okay?

Why not? It's better than disposing of the stuff expensively; it should also benefit your wallet. You mean the floor slab, right? Rhine regards

Don't you have an expert on board that you keep asking all these things here?

I don't mean it badly, but these are partly fundamental questions - which are usually asked when it's already happened.

I would also reuse the panels - but why should they be glued with foam adhesive - to each other or to what? Both would be wrong

Thank you for your answers,

we have an offer from the expert and are still considering, although he would only come afterwards anyway – no, I meant the strip foundations all around. I almost assume that he has already priced in the slabs – I even know the construction they came from – it had to be demolished because they massively exceeded the building envelope.

Good evening,

here we are again with the topic of "dangerous half-knowledge" ...

You should follow Lexmaul's advice ... even if he sometimes seems a bit like a tick, this time he is absolutely right about the expert! The expert will also explain to you why your BU wants to glue the Styrodur boards as undersole insulation ... will ... must.

A ring beam has nothing to do with the strip foundation; strip foundations are always made of concrete – what else would they be made of? An alternative would be a self-supporting slab; but your structural engineer probably ruled this out, otherwise no strip foundations would have been planned.

Rhenish regards
