Can polygonal slabs be laid on an existing terrace (concrete slabs)?

Hi!

In 2017 we moved into our newly built house. Included in the purchase price was the typical concrete slab terrace (see photo).
Size 4 x 9 m + corner access to the garage (+ approx. 5 m2).

The slabs are laid on a gravel bed (see photo from "back then").

Since we already have a high entrance edge to the house (approx. 19 cm) and now want to enhance the terrace in a Mediterranean style with polygonal slabs, the question arises whether we can use the slabs as a base? The slope is already optimal and our thought was that the concrete slabs are a solid foundation for our project.
Is this feasible and is there anything "special" we need to consider due to our situation?

Best regards & many thanks!

Should be fine, it is indeed a rather elaborate, stable, and even surface.

Hello Gatho

Set curbstones to height (the "old ones" can stay). Observe 2% slope. Put gravel on it, neatly level it off and lay the slabs. It will last forever. You already have the substructure.

Hi!

& -> thanks for the feedback!

I actually thought I would do it like in this video:

Steven just mentioned splitting again. But it's actually not necessary if I apply cement bonding slurry directly on my existing concrete slabs and then the adhesive on top and lay the tiles on that? So basically like in the video.

Best regards & thanks!

With cement slurry, you don't need gravel.

Hello Gatho

if the height buildup is done with bonding slurry and adhesive, you don't need gravel.
How much higher do you need to go with the new slabs?
