I installed the Trendnet TV-IP311PI. It is a so-called dome camera. However, there is also a regular version, the Trendnet TV-IP310PI.

The price is around 170 EUR and the image quality is good. What is absolutely rubbish is the firmware. However, this can be excellently bypassed by installing a version from Hikvision because the devices are identical in construction.

You can't completely hide the cameras. But with a 3 m roof, you should be able to find a place where it looks relatively inconspicuous.

What would be more sensible? A dome camera or a regular one?

Mounting could be on the house wall or on the ceiling of the entrance canopy.

Well, the dome camera placed directly above the area to be monitored is no use to you. It would then show the visitor from above. The camera must be installed offset. And that depends on the structural conditions. Best to upload a picture here with the desired camera position marked.

Here are 2 pictures of the construction project with the entrance area. I would have cables (power + LAN) installed in the entrance canopy at the back left (as viewed from the street) close to the house wall. Does that work?

I would take a dome camera and install it at the end or beginning of the [Überdachung] and aim it towards the door. In my opinion, however, it cannot be completely hidden.

What interests me is the personal cost/benefit calculation!

I recently realized for myself (no statistics available) that our landline number is not used and the doorbell is only used by the postman and, if at all, very rarely by visitors (noted 3 times a year). The announced visits (appointments and neighbors) do not count.

For a hundred bucks it might be a nice hobby thing to set everything up, but to continuously support it in operation, I doubt that

I only see your drafts afterwards now: don't you see the visitors through the side windows?
