Buying batteries with +1 KWh capacity, any experiences?

Hello,

we are considering supplying ourselves with batteries instead of a generator to be prepared for possible power outages. However, all devices with over 1 KWh quickly cost a thousand euros or more. The question is whether it is worth it. If the grid were to collapse, the investment would be worth its cost, right?!

Regards

How long do you want to last? And what to do with the electricity?

With an annual consumption of, for example, 5,500 kWh, you have 15 kWh per day, so with 2 kWh you would last about 3 hours.

Is the investment worth it to you?

Well, if I can bridge upcoming power outages for the most important things in the house, I will be glad to have done something...

Then you have your answer... For me, it is unlikely that if anything, there will only be power gaps. Either completely out or it runs.

Define your scenario:
- Duration and frequency of power outage
- critical consumers ("the most important")
- comfort consumption

The freezer chest stays cold for 2 hours without power. After 3 days, probably not anymore, but then the lack of heating is a bigger problem than a spoiled pizza

As far as I know, there could very well be local outages. Nationwide blackouts in Germany will likely be rarer events.

Yes, you are right there. Luxury is not supplied with such a device. That is logical.
Duration and frequency of power outage – well, who can predict that for us?
