Buy a condominium, build a house, or rent an apartment?

I wouldn’t see it so black and white, after all, one usually searches for at least a little while for the place where they want to spend the rest of their life. We searched for 2 years as well, and during that time we still had to rent. During those 2 years there were certainly several houses that could have been considered, not much more expensive either. That it eventually became the dream house was more by chance. If we had been in a hurry, we probably would have taken one of the other houses that were also "okay." There is quite a bit of room between "okay" and "absolutely top," and for the latter you don’t need that much luck. I would put the finished townhouse roughly at the lower end of what’s still acceptable, and in that range you can usually find something if you’re a bit flexible. Of course, you make compromises if it absolutely has to go fast, but on the other hand, I can’t really think of any reasons why you’d have to buy a house immediately. I’d rather rent in the meantime than create facts you end up not being satisfied with.
