Observe change of use: such a thing must be applied for and ultimately approved as residential space. Just because a church is sold does not mean one can simply change the purpose of the consecrated building just like that.

I would probably not feel comfortable in such premises, whether new or old, small or large, modern or elegant.

That wouldn't just be bad. Water turns into wine, leprosy, blindness, lameness, numbness disappear, instead parties with free charity, bigoted Pharisees no longer dare to call the sheriffs, and when vacuum cleaner salesmen ring the doorbell, he throws them out of the temple. So, there are worse shared apartments. Or did I misunderstand something? K..

In the UK it is normal to repurpose churches. A lot depends on the renovation what is preserved.

I have already stayed in beautiful ones (Capper Kirk Selkrik is also suitable as a family house) Unfortunately there are not many pictures.
There are also supermarkets (Spar in Oban), galleries and pubs (Finnegans Wake) in churches

You can definitely feel comfortable

The endeavor is only worthwhile if you have completely fallen for the property. Then you will have the strength to deal with various adversities – such as a suddenly no longer favorable window positioning once the rooms are planned, heating, insulation and installation, constraints and requirements... Such a project is appealing to friendly, lively, hands-on, confident, and patient individuals with some financial flexibility. I find that – just like such people – interesting and great.

There was one "more" too many :-(

Hehe, that would be funny if you were only allowed to use your house for preaching ;-) By the way, I spoke "approximately" of desecration – in the case of Protestants, the buildings are not formally consecrated. Nevertheless: (only) as long as it is a church, no weathercock cares that it actually perches far above the usual ridge height :)
