Why should motion detectors deter burglars from breaking in? Even if they came at night, which they usually do not, it would already save the much more conspicuous flashlight...

The only thing that could help would be an outdoor motion detector that then switches one or two lights inside the house.

Since it is a WEG: speak with the other owners, exterior walls are likely to be common property, so the other owners must agree. Since the garden is also to become common property, you must expect frequent triggering of the BWM located there.

Contrary to your opinion, it increases the risk of being detected.

As already mentioned: Only about 15% of burglaries occur at night. And even in these cases, the light doesn't help, because those who could see the burglar are asleep.

I have nothing against motion detectors - I like it when I can see something while parking my bike. But they simply do not provide burglary protection.

So maybe we have the same source. T-Online with the report from 2015. It speaks of night and early morning hours. However, half of the burglaries occur in the months from October to January. And it is already dark from 6 pm. Over 26% of the cases fall within the time from 6 pm to midnight. So already a quarter. The neighbors are also not yet asleep then. By the way, this is easy to explain. The perpetrators do not want to be discovered. So they choose the time when no one is there. So working hours and early morning. What additionally increases the risk of being discovered? Good lighting and a long time to get into the premises. Here is the approach for burglary protection.

Thanks to you all already for the feedback!

Yes, we are still considering whether the co-builders upstairs also have an option to turn off the motion detectors if they have a garden party or something in the evening. At the same time, they might possibly forget to turn the motion detectors back on again.
