Building plot with peat layer

On a property we are interested in, there is a peat layer. We are considering removing it and filling it with lava. In this case, one would need a well-bearing subsoil so that there is no risk of the house sinking. The excavated material can be used well on the property. It would be great if I could hear a few opinions and perhaps some experience on this.
