Hello everyone,

My husband and I have been looking for a suitable building plot for some time. Now we have come across a plot that is almost perfect: great location, price and size fit our plans. Unfortunately, there is a high-voltage power line right next to the plot (about 100m away).

Do we need to worry about this? Does such a power line make noise when it is heavily loaded? So far we haven’t noticed anything, but we are not sure if we were just always in the wrong place at the wrong time? What about the buzzword "Elektrosmog"? Can a high-voltage power line be harmful or disturbing in any way?

I am grateful for any experience reports and tips.

Best regards Nixa

High-voltage power lines cause magnetic fields which - the closer you live to them - are harmful to health. The same applies to mobile phone antennas etc.

Hello Nixaja,

I think Baufinanzierung is not entirely wrong there. Electrosmog can certainly lead to health damage over time, so I would be cautious. High-voltage power lines emit a certain buzzing sound in damp weather (drizzle or fog), which personally would not bother me that much. I could imagine that TV reception would probably be disturbed if the power line is in an unfavorable position relative to the satellite antenna.

So I wouldn't buy a piece of land if a high-voltage power line runs so close, and why is the land still available if the price and the other conditions are good, precisely because it is difficult to sell due to the power line.

We also have a property near a high-voltage power line. When it rains, there is a slight crackling noise. I don’t know if we would have bought it – but it was simply already there.

High-voltage power lines emit a magnetic field and this can be more or less of a burden.

With antenna masts, it is often somewhat different. A point 500 meters away can be more affected than directly under the antenna.

However, there are also ways to shield yourself from such things. For example, conductive plaster or shielding fabrics.

To what extent such an impairment is harmful to health is difficult to determine. Often too few boundary conditions are taken into account.

Sometimes the most idyllic place is the most affected – for example, due to natural uranium enrichment, etc.

I would say it is a personal matter that you have to decide for yourselves.

What always reassures me is that one of the horses grazing right next to the mast is already 32 years old. So it can’t be absolutely deadly.

Hello...

many thanks for the answers.

We have thought it over again and will probably continue searching...

That would have been too good.

Thanks again and best regards
