But you do know that the state building code stipulates the following.



And just because others don’t have this doesn’t make it any better. Although I can’t believe that; if a garage is involved, people do build enough space in front to park another car.

We have a similar situation and also a 5m distance rule. I questioned this as well and was told the reason is the narrowness of the private road. If the garages are built so close to the street, vehicles would, based on experience, constantly be parked (partially) on the private road, since no one always drives the car all the way into the garage. Additionally, this creates more private parking space "around the back," and it also looks very cramped at such cul-de-sacs when the builders build garages/carports too close to the street.
