Hello dear home builders,

first of all, I would like to thank you as a silent reader for the helpful, valuable information.

Now we also want to start building and have finally found a plot of land (private sale), which is, however, completely paved with cobblestones.

This plot was formerly a construction yard, where our municipality used it as a fleet yard, among other things, for trucks.

The plot is very flat and we would have to remove the cobblestones ourselves.

My question to you is whether there are more advantages to such a plot, since there are already quite a few cobblestones and gravel present, or whether there are more disadvantages, since the soil under the gravel may have "suffered" due to oil leaks or similar?

Have a good and healthy start into the new year.

Best regards

It depends. Normally, the property should not be contaminated. What does the seller (the city?) say about this risk?

Vienna is the exact structure of the substructure? If the oil-contaminated soil is present, it becomes expensive.

hmm I would even partially see something like that as advantageous, there is a load-bearing layer so you can place the house/garage etc. directly on it... a driveway is already there too... and so on.

Depends! IMHO, a soil survey is necessary to determine which measures are needed to found the desired house (basement?). For horticultural use, compaction is rather a disadvantage. What type of paving is it? Is it possible to gain some proceeds from selling it, or will you rather face disposal costs?
