Hello everyone,
we are currently faced with the question of which staircase to choose and how it should be constructed ;)
We do not want the standard staircase from the general contractor made of beech wood; instead, it should be a solid staircase made of reinforced concrete or a similar solution, where only the tread surfaces are later supplemented with wooden steps. However, there should still be enough space under the staircase for a storage room, so the space under the stairs must not be bricked up.
Since such staircases are usually more expensive than simple wooden staircases, we want to save money by contributing as much DIY work as makes sense (by the way, the staircase has a quarter turn).
I don’t exactly have two left hands, but I have zero experience in staircase construction and therefore hope to gather some important information here that will bring me closer to a decision on how to best approach such a staircase project.
I’m just going to write down the questions that are currently swirling in my head:
Are there legal requirements for staircases that must be complied with? (...please don’t say now "yes, it must support, for example, 2 people going up the stairs at the same time"... ) Or is it up to each individual how they move from the ground floor to the upper floor?
Does it even make sense to build the staircase yourself, or is it maybe better in terms of cost-benefit effort to have a reinforced concrete staircase installed and then customized/supplemented according to your own wishes?
Please just write what experiences and ideas you have on how to come to such a staircase, without bluntly saying, I’m just going to have the thing delivered fully finished, no matter how expensive...
As mentioned, we are looking for the option with the best cost-benefit ratio.
Thank you very much!
Regards, Ralf
