What the "net income" is likely to be reduced by at least 300-400€ extra for 3 people, despite cheaper rates in Germany...

so just over 3k "German" net income remains... sounds quite different from the 4600€ from the initial post!

And I think it's actually clear that you can't put 2000€ monthly into financing from ~3000€! Living costs here unfortunately aren't that cheap either ;)

I think you still have a logical error here. To my knowledge, in Germany the Swiss gross salary and not the net salary is also used for taxation. The gross amount has not been itemized as a figure anywhere so far.
Does Frau mean married? If unmarried, it gets even more expensive.

I'm not exactly sure how it was in detail, but the differences between gross and net salary for the Swiss aren't that big anyway ;)
But that would probably increase the tax burden a bit more, which doesn't make the whole thing any better...

Building? certainly possible!
Putting 2000+ monthly into financing? rather not!

By the way, in my calculation I already assumed tax class 1..

We are married. My wife called the tax office in Waldshut yesterday and inquired there. Without knowing the details, his bill sounded much better to him than your calculation... I have to ask her again precisely, but could it be that you are overlooking something? She said there are special provisions for cross-border commuters and that a lot can apparently be deducted from taxes... I am simply confused by the contradictory statements from the different sources. My wife is Austrian in case that changes anything.

Thanks to the great German tax law, you will get 100 different opinions from 100 people. The only way I see for you: go to a tax advisor who specializes in cross-border commuters. Because even regular tax advisors don’t understand it. After all, it concerns two countries that are not even in the same trading zone and have the same currency.

Before you sign anything, you must have 100% certainty about how your salary will improve/worsen.

We would have had a tax advantage with cross-border commuters to France and would have saved about €5000 annually. But unfortunately, there were no suitable plots of land in Alsace.
Therefore, get detailed information before taking this step. And also calculate additional fuel costs. Also remember that you will spend most of your time in Switzerland and thus have different costs than going to the canteen in Germany for lunch. Such things add up as well. But as someone who now works in Switzerland, you know that better than I do. I just swallowed hard when I was supposed to pay €20 for my lunch the other day in the canteen in Zurich :)

That may be because I calculated with tax class 1.

If you are married and you earn significantly more than your wife, you can switch to tax class 3, which should increase the net income by about €400. If your wife earns money later, this gain will naturally be reduced somewhat, as she will have to go into tax class 5, which is "worse" than 1.
