Good, you commission the agent to find you an apartment. He offers you an apartment that he is selling/renting on behalf of someone.

Two assignments. Is the agent then allowed to collect fees twice? In one transaction?

From that perspective, I find the rule that only one party pays when a deal is made not entirely unreasonable. Since some people here have already complained about the enormous earnings of agents, what does it look like if the agent is supposed to get double commission?

That's regulated. By law, in rental agreements, the landlord pays if he says, find me a tenant, vice versa. Otherwise, in buying or selling, it is a matter of discretion, market conditions, who pays. Here in the city, there is a broker who generally sells commission-free, but the commission, which the seller then pays him, is of course included in the price and it still works, even if his properties are therefore more expensive. The customer wants to be deceived. Karsten

In purchases, it is quite common for a broker to collect twice.......

I have paid the broker. He also did not broker me any property for which he was already commissioned by the provider.

For me, it is also exaggerated, I also don't understand why the seller does not have to pay the broker. He is the one who places the order and not the buyer. As a buyer, you already have enough costs, etc. It is not a fair construct, in my opinion.

That is how the market is. The broker wants to be paid for his work, ultimately he does not care by whom. In a market where high demand meets scarce supply, it will only be resolvable in such a way that the demander, i.e. the buyer, pays. Otherwise, no one offers the broker their house to sell. In the shipping sector, brokers also operate. There, the seller currently pays because high supply meets scarce demand. Karsten
