I naturally assume that there is also glue in the joints, from which it does not ooze out. I do not have X-ray vision. However, I use the cheap trick of being on the forum with a desktop PC, which apparently makes some images more comfortably viewable "in large" :)

You're older too... grin, it's just easier that way.

one has to keep the church in the village a bit. an expert can only speculate and will definitely be more expensive than replacing the stones. you take out the loose parts and then put a bit more "schmatze" on it and that's that.

the excavator hit quite hard. The stones are cracked over a large area. How deep? I think it is 24.5 masonry.
so I would either insist that the stones be replaced, or have an expert confirm the safety of not replacing them.
That's my layman's opinion.
