Doing it yourself is really no problem with a proper click floor. The subfloor just has to be flat and in good condition, and then you need to be clearly instructed on how to do it. The first time is always the first time, and if you feel unsure while laying it, you can ask questions. Inform yourself about the installation method beforehand and off you go-
A floating floor like that can also be replaced quickly. Solid wood planks could be a bit tight because of the buildup height, but there are countless beautiful alternatives.
Even if it currently sounds old school, I also think carpet is nice (if chosen well) and suitable for children.
