Good evening,

I have a planning question:

The children's room and bathroom are on the top floor on the south side. Both rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows. The neighbor is about 6 to 7 meters away in a straight line with his house wall (2-story construction).

I have only lived in houses with roller shutters. Now I am considering possibly installing blinds to regulate the sunlight and the neighbor's visibility. The neighbor only has upper light strips on his house side.

Does anyone have experience with blinds in the mentioned rooms on the top floor? Apparently, there are blinds that completely darken, so very little light comes into the room and sleep is not disturbed. Are there disadvantages that I am overlooking?

Thanks and regards,

Merlin

More expensive - but they never get 100% dark. Why have a floor-to-ceiling window in the bathroom at all, which is practically never used for its intended purpose?

The woman decided. Makes the room overall a bit brighter. She probably wants to put a half-height plant in front of the window.

The extra cost is probably manageable.

Possibly because of the lighting? Or because of the appearance? Or because it looks spacious? Edit: Probably too slow. Merlin was faster with his answer.

: Blinds look very nice. However, for the children's room window, I would prefer a curtain or an internally mounted blind. Nowadays, there are also curtains that look and function like blinds.

One disadvantage could be susceptibility to wind: strong wind can damage the blinds, which is why they are often combined with a wind sensor that automatically retracts them in case of strong wind. Might not be very well received in the bathroom and/or children's room...

why not just proper roller shutters right away? If the knee wall is high enough or it is a full story, and there is space outside for a shutter box, a roller shutter should also be able to be accommodated, shouldn't it? I really like the shading of blinds or also shutters with slats, but unfortunately my husband doesn't agree with that. And I wouldn't insist on something like that just for aesthetic reasons.
