Hello dear forum,

I am currently planning a complete renovation of an old house together with an architect. If you feel like it, please take a look at my bathrooms. I think they are not quite perfect yet.

Picture 1 is supposed to be the family bathroom. The alternatives were a huge bathroom (almost 15 sqm) or a smaller one (9 sqm) and instead space for a utility room for washing machine and dryer. We decided on the latter.
The bathroom will be used by four people for the first few years. Two adults and two children. Only when the children are older will we move upstairs (bathroom in picture 3. You are welcome to take another look at that one too. It is huge for two people.)

My questions:
Is just under 9 sqm too tight for a family bathroom?
We would like to have two sinks, a shower, and a bathtub. What do you think of the layout? There is a slight slope at the bottom edge, which is why the shower was not planned there.
It somehow seems cramped to get past the toilet to the bathtub.
Do you have any suggestions on how this could be designed better?

Thanks!

Almost 5m² just for the washing machine and dryer, which you usually stack anyway, seems to me to be quite an expensive waste of space. Why are you moving into the attic with the larger bathroom only later? This is just a bathroom that only one person uses anyway. No one sits on the toilet when you are lying in the tub. Why don't you remove the toilet and put it in the room with the washing machine?

If YOU don’t do that, you get a great workspace where you can fold the laundry right away. So it’s not a given. And space for the drying rack in bad weather isn’t bad either.

Is there a guest toilet? Otherwise, I would actually consider integrating a second toilet into the laundry room. One toilet for 4 people is tight.

Draw the 2 m line.
How steep is the roof pitch and the knee wall?
Where are the wastewater pipes of the toilets in the existing building?

Yes, there are enough toilets. One in the basement by the sauna and a guest toilet on the ground floor. So that's not the problem...

Both are correct. Somehow a bit of dead space. It would also be enough if the whole thing were 1.30m wide, right? Then you can still put dryer and washing machine next to each other and the bathroom has a bit more room. We are not moving upstairs yet because our children are very small. They still need a lot of support and it would be annoying to run up and down a floor every time...

Do you think the arrangement with the toilet on the left and the shower and bathtub on the right makes sense? Or would it be better to swap?

Right now I have no other idea, but for bathing toddlers the shower is in the way. Also when cleaning. I wouldn’t like it.
