Hello and a happy new year to everyone. I have been reading along here for some time, this year we are building our single-family house near Hamburg.

Right now I am dealing with the topic of house connection: basic supplier and house connection costs are all clear - my question is whether with the house connection you had a minimum contract period with the basic supplier, or if you could switch directly to your preferred providers. There is sometimes a significant price difference!

Regards Kai

P.S. The thread should actually have been created under Haustechnik/Ökologie, no idea how I ended up in Baufinanzierung. Professionals at work

I'll take a risk and say that you can switch immediately - or with a 2-week notice period or something similar (at least that worked for us).

It was the same with us. We canceled directly with the basic supplier after connection. Then we only had the 4-week notice period.

It is important that you also book the basic tariff with the basic supplier. If you book another tariff, it may be that you sign a 12- or 24-month contract.

Just finished - was with RWE at just under 30 cents/kWh and have now switched to some provider from Bavaria, where I now pay just under 18 cents/kWh

Cancellation by the new provider and it took just under 20 days from cancellation to switch.

Interesting how regionally different it is. For us, RWE is one of the cheapest providers (if you don't switch every year to get the bonuses) and well below 30C. Cancellation and switching from the supplier Energie also took only a few weeks.

I can throw the nationwide Maingau into the ring - especially interesting for heat pump owners without a second meter (many cheaper providers exclude heat pumps because the daily consumption distribution is apparently unfavorable - electricity is known to be more expensive at night)
