Good day everyone,

I was already able to read into the subject a bit in this forum. Our floor slab was poured last week. The formwork has now been removed and I noticed the following:

1. That at one spot (on the side) the reinforcement is visible (see picture). I now fear that the concrete cover at the edge of the floor slab is generally not sufficient to protect the reinforcement from corrosion. Are there spacers for the edge of the floor slab to ensure the concrete cover? Before the concrete was poured, I could not see any spacers here (only the strips underneath on the construction foil). Should a concrete cover of 3-4 cm also be ensured at the edge area? Could this be fixed if the floor slab is slightly enlarged?

2. The floor slab is about 10 x 10 meters in size. The structural analysis assumes a floor slab with a thickness of 30 cm. However, at one corner (about 3 meters) the floor slab is only 23 cm thick. Before I go to the structural engineer with this issue, I just wanted to hear your opinion whether this could maybe be remedied by "filling up" the 7 cm with concrete?

Thank you in advance for your feedback.

Best regards

Well, if the structural engineer says 30cm and it is only 23, then that is definitely incorrect....

PS: to me it also looks like there is no frost skirt at the edge, right?

According to the architect / soil report, we did not need a frost apron but thank you for the note.

The reinforcement will begin to rust and through the chemical process the concrete will eventually chip off exactly at that spot.
