I would recommend planning a small single-family house with an elevator. From my point of view, it makes no sense to leave a good 100 sqm of floor space unused, nor to put the bathroom and the children in the attic. What if you are home alone and have to *quickly* go upstairs? Besides, good 30,000 EUR should separate both options; for that you can buy an elevator and have it serviced for many, many years ;)

Smaller elevators are no longer insanely expensive; corresponding maintenance contracts are also affordable. Furthermore, there are funding programs for exactly such a case; this has already been rightly pointed out here.

Rhenish regards

So an elevator costs 24,000-28,000€, plus an ANNUAL maintenance fee of 200€, additionally there are the TÜV fees and the electricity!!!! Our construction company thinks that it is then not worth building a single-family house at all

Is your contractor a recognized expert in the field of "barrier-free construction"? If not, I would look for someone who really has experience with it and can accordingly make constructive as well as creative suggestions.

That is nonsense!

Invest some money in a "subsidized" photovoltaic system; then the maintenance costs for electricity will be relative. An annual maintenance should also be in your interest!

Then I would question the construction company ;)

We have planned all rooms on one floor. Since we did not want a bungalow, a granny flat will be built in the attic. For renting out or maybe for caregivers. A stairlift is an option for me only if there is a necessity in an existing building. Usually, you need 2 wheelchairs or always a helping hand.
