As the name suggests, you can only make progress up there by crawling. However, I didn’t find this particularly bothersome during my first inspection recently. Boxes are lifted up via the pull-out ladder and then stored by pushing them at the top. It only gets uncomfortable if it’s particularly bulky and/or heavy goods. The standard moving box (unless packed full with books) does not pose a major problem. As for 2., the best way to stock the attic is if someone hands items up from below.
