Does it look like asbestos-containing material to you?

You can't tell visually. But your question shows a lack of knowledge.

Asbestos itself is completely harmless. ONLY if there are free asbestos fibers, ist it can be harmful to health. Throw that crap away and take a deep breath. If the material looks like this, you can start to worry:

Of course, ignorance is obvious from my question! 100% that is the premise for my question - otherwise I would have the answer myself ....

What did you buy it as / where do your photos of the crumbles come from?

I removed a stainless steel furnace door from the oil heating system (with hammer and chisel). These are parts of the Mörel around the chimney door. The heating system was built in 1996. The door could also have been installed at that time.

1. Tiny crumbs without much dust = not a real problem, even if asbestos 2. 1996 = asbestos banned since 1993 Then just believe the answer that you should not lose any sleep over it. You even believe that a single fiber can be deadly.
