Are renovations not lucrative for the companies?

I have been trying for the last 5 months to get a construction company from the Landshut region that also wants to carry out renovations or refurbishments.
I’ll say it upfront - without success!

Over half a dozen companies I contacted didn’t get back to me at all,
only one made a fixed appointment after I called back a few times,
but then didn’t show up after all.

1.) Why do companies offer to request quotes via e-mail if they don’t respond to them?
2.) I understand that new builds bring in money faster and on a larger scale,
3.) but why do they then offer renovation and refurbishment on their websites if they have no interest in it?
4.) It’s really not easy to keep the economy in Germany going, let alone renovate a house.

Unfortunately, I have now ended up looking for a reputable company in the neighboring country.

This is not only the case with renovations...

...even with smaller jobs it seems to be common practice.

Last summer we built a double garage and finished the roof at the end of October. Since October I have been trying to find a plasterer for the garage. This turned out to be more difficult than expected.

Unfortunately, nothing could be done before winter. Everyone's order books were full. Afterwards, we had some snow and a long cold period. Nevertheless, I tried to place an order already. But somehow no one really wanted to measure and write an offer in winter. Everyone referred me to spring...

In May I finally had someone who submitted an acceptable offer. I then commissioned this company. Since that day I have heard nothing from the company. Several written inquiries -> no response. Eventually I spoke to the boss’s wife on the phone. She listened and promised me that her husband would get in touch. Of course, this has not happened to this day.

So I canceled the order in July and started over. Same thing here. The boss of a company from the neighboring town came on a Saturday in July to inspect everything and take measurements. Since then nothing more has been heard from him...

On the other hand, there are off-putting offers that are 100% more expensive than the average. They apparently don’t want the job either.

In the meantime, however, I have come to an agreement with a company and the base plaster inside and outside has already been done.

Have you first tried calling and asking if they currently have any capacity? I think renovations are definitely worth it. It always depends on how the company has arranged it. Do you want a complete renovation from a single source?

Hello!

The craftsmen are fully booked, there is hardly any young staff willing to be trained. You can only take on a few more additional orders in case clients drop out. And I have experienced that craftsmen are not very keen on writing offers in the evening.

What exactly needs to be done for you?

Yes, unfortunately I have gotten that impression too and have often had to hear "no desire."

What a pity!
Everyone talks about keeping the money in the region, but then like this?

In my case, a new roof structure combined with an extension of a single-family house as well as a new garage are planned.

My daughter is planning a new build for 2016/17, and here these regional companies already fall out of the picture.

Since young people now connect via the WorldWideWeb and inquire in clubs as well as among acquaintances which companies would be recommended if they want to build a new house, I can hardly name any of these companies that are so incredibly unreliable.
If this business conduct becomes widely known, it is certainly not encouraging, so I cannot understand this unreliability or "no desire."

There will certainly be worse years again for the construction industry.

Well, if the books are full, at least that can be communicated. And if a company already has a website, and then doesn’t even respond to emails... It makes a bad impression nowadays. Then they should write on the site that they can only be reached by phone/....
