Hello everyone, we will soon begin with the construction of our house. The surveyor has already been there and carried out the staking out of the building. Today I was on the property to take a look at it. On one side, I noticed the small distance to the neighbor. Measured briefly with my feet and got 3m instead of 5m. The tape measure confirmed my suspicion. The distance does not correspond to that in the submitted building application.

So informed the builder and meeting tomorrow :) My construction hasn’t even started yet and already the first mistake. So I will go to the construction site daily with the tape measure and building plans to measure.

At our place (without basement) the excavation pit was staked out. So house + working area all around. We were also closer than planned. The fine staking was done afterwards. I think it’s the same for you.

The exact measurements and corner points result from the intersection of the mason's strings, which are stretched at the "Meßpunkten" (that's how laymen see it, I don't know the technical term).

I think you are misinterpreting the battens accordingly.

A tip: always stay calm at first – usually the expert is right and the layman should keep his self-acquired "knowledge" to himself before he stirs up all the chickens wildly :)

But what are you even telling the builder? One more thing like that, and you won't be allowed to enter the construction site until handover :D

Wrong. You have chosen a construction PARTNER. Then also show trust in your partner. There is still a lot of time until acceptance. Not everything that is "wrong" for you has to be really wrong.

Good morning,

we were on the construction site every day, also living only a few hundred meters away, but apart from minor things in the shell construction and now shortly before completion, looking back, one could quite calmly go over the construction and watch the house grow.

At the beginning, one is excited, nervous, etc., the longer you build, the more relaxed you become :) but in the end, everything will be great if you have a good partner.

We always had non-alcoholic drinks at the construction site, which improved the workers' mood, and otherwise just let the gentlemen get on with it. They are professionals and I believe no one likes being watched while working and hearing clever remarks.

Hello Speer,

is it possibly the case that the staking out does not refer to the building dimensions, but to the dimensions of the excavation pit (building dimensions + working space)?

Mistakes can happen where work is being done, I think it doesn’t hurt to walk around the construction site from time to time with open eyes.

For example, with us, point foundations were set incorrectly in the working space – we really only noticed this by chance before these areas were completely backfilled again.

I’m curious to hear what you can report after today’s conversation with the developer.

Regards,

Dirk
