Hi,

my name is Rene and I actually have several questions. However, I will limit myself to the window questions in this subforum for now.
In our house built in 2018, we had aluminum windows installed. These windows are made of aluminum on both the inside and outside and have triple glazing.
The windows are very nice. However, what we find unpleasant is that the window frames are quite cold during the transition period and in winter.
The window frames have very large temperature differences compared to the window reveals and even compared to the window panes (measured and felt in the middle).
The frames always feel cold and we avoid being close to them in the mentioned seasons.
Can this be right?
A friend of mine had "relatively cheap" plastic windows installed and we feel much more comfortable next to his windows.
My windows were installed using this sealing tape (which can expand), Horst's windows were foamed with construction foam.
Can you maybe tell me from experience whether that makes a difference?
I know it will be hard to assess because of the different materials. But maybe there is a window fitter, carpenter, or energy expert among you.
Thank you very much for your opinions
Regards, Rene

I am not an expert, but physically I would see it this way. Aluminum is an excellent conductor of heat and therefore also a conductor of cold.

The decisive factor is the construction of the window profile. There is usually always a steel core inside. Covered with plastic or aluminum.

I'll put it this way. An aluminum toilet seat always feels significantly colder than one made of plastic. But that is just a feeling. The temperature should be the same.

The window installation with compression tape is correct and good. One should no longer do it with construction foam.

Hi, thanks for your answer. Where is a steel core in there? I don't understand that. I thought plastic windows or aluminum windows are made from the material specified! I believe that the aluminum windows I mean consist only of aluminum. And with the plastic windows, I was actually also sure that they are made entirely of plastic.

The steel core gives the window torsional stiffness, stability, and burglary protection. Without it, your window would twist and be unstable.

Even when buying windows, you usually only buy the name. The cheap Polish windows are not much worse than a German and expensive branded window.

Basically, every window has a steel core. Only the profile frame is then either plastic or aluminum. Accordingly, the cover strips, etc. However, this is only a feature for the feel and the appearance.
