I am currently in the process of planning many small details and developing my ideas.

I got stuck on the point of the floor in the owner-occupied ground floor.

The first idea was the "standard setup": floor slab, insulation, underfloor heating, screed, floor covering like click vinyl or glue-down vinyl or nicer and more expensive bamboo parquet.

My brother has a solid wood floor (oak planks) on battens in his house. Similar to the setup in the picture.

Now, the house is to be built as resource-consciously as possible, so I do not want to stop at the floor. So now the plan is to lay plank flooring (floating) throughout the entire ground floor.

Alternatively, I am planning to install the underfloor heating in the ceiling (as ceiling heating / cooling in the open-plan kitchen), standard radiators or infrared wall heating in the bedroom? Bathroom? Wall radiators / infrared.

Are there (usual) concerns regarding the construction method against ceiling heating? Is the overall cost significantly higher or about the same?

The house itself will be a KfW40+ building with cross-laminated timber stacking + wood fiber insulation boards and plaster.

Costs: oak planks tongue and groove about €40 per m², to be laid by ourselves. The rest: no idea ...

Does anyone have experience with such floors in the bathroom and kitchen?

Hello, does the foundation slab already exist or will it be created first? In other words, are you planning a renovation or a new construction?

Hello, the floor slab is expected to be done within the next 6 weeks according to the schedule, new build according to KfW40+ / Passive House. The ceiling heating has meanwhile been removed. I have enough information that "normal" underfloor heating also works with plank flooring. The only thing I am still considering is whether to make the bathroom floor completely out of wood... The final wall and floor structures will be decided next Wednesday. Below the floor slab with strip foundations, there will probably be 14cm insulation.

I have a wooden floor in the bathroom. That works very well. I just let small water splashes dry, and for larger puddles, I quickly wipe the floor dry. But those only rarely occur and only by accident. I find the wooden floor super comfortable on the feet. Next year I will move. In the new house, I chose wooden floors again. Last winter I managed without underfloor heating in the bathroom. It did not harm the floor. I have parquet that consists of different layers.

Hi,

thanks. That reassures me a bit. Otherwise, I will probably take massive floorboards (oak?) everywhere. In the bathroom, I was thinking of bamboo parquet. I'm just an Asia fan.

Let's see what the next few weeks bring.

Oh, I’ll add that I have no children. That really helps the wooden floor. As an adult, you automatically manage to treat the floor with care. Bamboo parquet is very beautiful and also suitable for the bathroom. Show a photo of the bathroom later, I’m very curious. I haven’t seen an Asian-style bathroom yet and can’t quite imagine it.
