At Rensch-Haus, an internal heat pump with central ventilation and fresh air heating is standard in the Kfw 40 houses. For an additional charge, there is also an external heat pump with underfloor heating. Does anyone have experience with fresh air heating? I know underfloor heating; it is somewhat slow but works perfectly. The seller recommends the fresh air heating, although it is cheaper. I would be very grateful for any experiences. Thank you very much!

Well, of course he recommends the heating system that yields him more profit. And if the decision is: Heating A or no order, then it will just be Heating A. (No matter what technology is behind A).

The question will be: how high is the heating load? What do the realistically expected costs look like (operation, maintenance, servicing, acquisition)?
Ventilation heating means: what heat is taken from the house (walls, ventilation losses, hot water preparation, etc.) must all be put back into the house via warm air. Depending on the room size and the amount of heat to be supplied, this naturally requires more or less volume flow and more or less warm supply air. And how is this warm air generated? In case of doubt, by electrically heated heating coils. The less heat is lost through the walls, the more this can still make sense.

probably the margin is simply higher there...

Air is a poor medium and rather unsuitable as a heating option in our latitudes... at the Mediterranean it is great, I wouldn't install anything else there...

Thank you very much for the answers. Why the seller should have more margin on the cheaper heating system does not make sense to me. But I gather from your answers that you consider the air-to-water heat pump to be clearly the better solution.

Example:

if:

- the air heater costs 1000, but is sold to you for 2000, the seller makes a profit of 1000 euros.

- the heat pump costs 1500, but is sold to you for 2000, the seller only makes a profit of 500 euros.

Both heaters heat your house more badly than decently, but the seller doesn’t care... he actually just wants to maximize his profit....

The fool in the end is then you, because your heater might not fit the house and consumes huge amounts of energy...

We have such a ventilation heating system and are very satisfied (now going into the third Bavarian winter). However, there are a few things to watch out for. I have explained this elsewhere: In combination with photovoltaics and a fireplace in a low (or lowest) energy house, for me it is a good, affordable heating and ventilation solution. With an energy standard worse than efficiency house 55 / Kfw40, I would be skeptical, and I would not want to miss the fireplace on cold winter evenings (radiant heat). ....and a pre-installed ground heat exchanger is recommended to ensure efficient operation even at deep subzero temperatures.
