Hello,

I am interested in the Expedit shelf. It is actually also a room divider and should therefore be stable enough to stand on its own in the room, right? I once saw it in an office and touched it a bit (when no one was looking) and it wobbled quite a bit. Now I don't know how often the shelf has already been "moved" and how old it was... that's why I am now hoping for your experiences.. I somehow find Expedit nicer than Billy... but Billy has a back panel and is therefore probably more stable, like for example with Pax also due to the Pax back panel - right?

I look forward to your experiences.

Best regards

Good morning,

the Expedit is already stable in itself, but even the assembly instructions recommend securing the shelf to the wall for stability. If you only put a few things in it, for decorative purposes, you don't need to. But if it is going to be "loaded," then definitely wall mounting.

The problem is that the shelf is too narrow and the height too high. Therefore, the shelf can tip over.
The back panel is not crucial in this case. The side panels and the bottom are strong enough.

Best regards, Maverick1854

hmm.. so the thing in the office was wobbling from right to left.. so it wasn't a square but a trapezoid.. hmm.. was that understandable?

Then it was not an Expedit, because the Expedit only exists in rectangular or square form.

Did you mean to write parallelogram? I myself do not (yet) have an EXPEDIT, but I fear it is due to poor screwing or overload or both. ;)

Hello Ronja,

I believe we have had the Expedit at home since it came out. At the beginning, we had 2 pieces, with a total length of about 3m. The shelves are filled with records and books, of course, according to the instructions, you should anchor these things.
You don’t need to worry about tipping if it’s properly loaded. At the moment, we have two of them in use again; these are not attached to the wall because I had to run cables for printers, lava lamps, phones, servers, etc. behind them.
The shelf does not move in the tipping direction; I just tried it in the longitudinal direction, which is negligible, someone would really have to pull hard before anything happens. I have two children and am very careful about that.
I can only recommend the 150x150 things, if the floor is reasonably even, no problem.
I did experience a small drawback, they are not necessarily easy to disassemble again; during the last move I had to break them apart with brute force because disassembling was impossible. I suspect that the components were not 100% dry, but unfortunately, given the price and availability, this is only a minor cosmetic flaw.

Best regards
Schweni, who is moving again in 4 weeks and hopes this time the things can be disassembled
