Hello everyone,

I wanted to know your opinion on whether it is necessary to still apply the welding sheets as an additional moisture barrier on the WU floor slab?

Best regards

This topic was really hotly debated among us. For me, it still doesn't make sense how the water is supposed to "jump up" the wooden walls through 50cm of gravel, 14cm of insulation, and 30cm of waterproof concrete. But all the construction professionals involved insisted on this with the reasoning that the water contained in the BP could otherwise penetrate through the soil structure into the walls or beams and cause damage (or similar). And I didn't want to be the only one to continue discussing it for days because of 1500€ (how sometimes, as already mentioned elsewhere by another person, one loses a healthy relationship with money). In short: Yes

I also couldn’t understand it, but we had it done anyway. But why is it okay not to apply a seal in the upper floor? Why can’t the water contained in the concrete slab there damage the covering? Did anyone explain that to you?

Hello,

the sealing membrane is actually supposed to prevent the residual moisture of the concrete from entering the building and is not a waterproofing against water from the outside.
The reason for this is that the slab cannot dry out to the outside and thus only has the way to the "inside." For a floor slab, this is not necessary because the drying process can work "downwards." It is therefore more of a water vapor diffusion retardant layer.
But I agree with you that opinions differ on the sensibility of this; in any case, it is a generally accepted technical standard to do so.

Best regards
