Hello, I am currently renovating an inherited house. Now I have encountered a problem. The last wooden step to the upper floor is worn on one side. On the left it is almost flush, about 3 mm lower than the upper floor covering, on the right it drops by up to 20 mm. The staircase is stained mahogany. I simply can't find a reasonable solution. Recently, I had the idea to attach a wooden strip horizontally in front of the step and create a level using a leveling compound. Then I wanted to attach a thin wooden board on the step and stain it to match. Is something like this possible and if so, which materials are used? Many thanks. Regards Rudolf

That it has worn on only one side means that it is always subjected to high stress. Your as thin as possible wooden board will soon be worn out again. Can't you replace it completely? New solid wood instead?

I also think that a repair, as described above, will not last long.

If in doubt, consult a stair builder who will make a new step and install it right away.

Regards,

Dirk
