Hello everyone,
we are currently in the final planning stage of our semi-detached house and have planned a fairly large slanted window in the attic.

The standard plan includes a gable window measuring 1.54x1.14m.

This seemed a bit too small for the room, so we now have 2 options:

Option 1: A roof window measuring 0.94x1.18m (Velux GTU) for 1575 EUR

or

Option 2: First, just enlarging the gable window by 40cm for 803 EUR

The trav-glazing would of course be a full 40cm larger, but in the upper part only 22cm would be visible area due to what doesn’t increase because of the frame etc.
What would you do?

The room will be a bedroom/children’s room and I am not the biggest fan of double casement windows. Also, photovoltaic panels are planned for this roof side, so the double casement window would of course take up space for this.
What would you do in our place? Is enlarging the gable window worth it or rather the double casement window?

Thanks for your opinion!
Best regards

I am also not a fan of double casement windows, especially in the bedroom/children's room. They cannot be darkened well. When it rains, it gets very loud (and the children are woken up). When they are open, significantly more dirt comes in. When airing out, hardly any fresh air comes in. And eventually, you leave them open and it rains!

What is the orientation of the gable? I am not a fan of these casement windows with lower windows that consist almost entirely of muntins and frames.

The gable faces south. What would you do in our place?

If you are building without air conditioning, I would plan in a roof window to be able to ventilate.

Honestly, I don’t understand why with a parapet height of 0 there should be a window of roughly …
…, ok, strike the last sentence. The problem is the photo on that side.

I think the parapet window will be enough on the south. Double-leaf and fine.
Ours has similar dimensions: 16 sqm room, but a window width of 2 meters.

And then opposite your door there should be a double-leaf window, which makes the access friendly and brings light into the corner.
’s tip is worth its weight in gold!
