Hello house builders,

I received my windows on Friday and I am now quite angry!
We have a window in the stairwell with rough construction dimensions of 76cm width and 334.5cm height! The window is fixed and must be laminated safety glass (VSG). In all plans, this was shown as one continuous pane. No notes and no inquiries from the construction company. Now this window has a division (mullion) at 110cm. This division does not fit the facade concept at all!
First statement from the contractor: This glass cannot be ordered as is because there are structural issues.
First statement from the window manufacturer: There are no glass panes longer than 3m.

I feel completely taken for a ride, everyone says something different and we had a great game of "Chinese whispers" on Friday (I call the contractor, who calls the window manufacturer, who calls his installer at the construction site and he tells me something completely different than what was asked).

Who has helpful information that such a window is indeed POSSIBLE WITHOUT A MULLION?

That is nonsense in my opinion. I have already seen glass elements in triple glazing up to 10-15 meters. Maybe there is nothing in the system used by the company or the requested manufacturer - but I consider it wrong that it does not exist at all.

Everything from my experience is primarily a question of price, the suitable window system, and the costs of installation (crane, etc.). Plastic windows usually reach their system limits with large elements over approximately 2.50m (varies from window profile manufacturer to window profile manufacturer).

Yes, that definitely exists. We also have a window about 65x500. We were asked if it absolutely has to be in one piece and deliberately chose a central division. The problem is simply the installation, companies don’t like to do that and of course it costs more. But the excuse is nonsense, we could have gotten our 5m in one piece as well.

Our window in the stairwell is 1.18m by 3.05m. Safety glass and aluminum frame.
