Windfang - Why don't people do that anymore today?

Everyone tries to insulate their house as well as possible, but apparently no one thinks about the heat loss caused by opening the front door. Why is it that new houses no longer have a [Windfang]? Is it simply out of fashion or are there special reasons for it? I am currently planning my house and I actually wanted a [Windang] for the entrance.

A windbreak is still important; I think that for financial reasons a windbreak is omitted. Include a windbreak in your plans, it is also useful as a dirt buffer (dirty shoes, wet coats...).

I can only agree with my predecessor. I also had to almost persuade my architect to plan an entrance hall. I find such a thing very practical and did not want to do without it.

This is often no longer considered in house construction for cost reasons. It was the same with us. When the architect finished his plan, we wanted to reduce costs a bit. The [Windfang] was immediately canceled. He also said that front doors nowadays have a high standard and are absolutely airtight. Well, then we let ourselves be persuaded.

Hello,

there are different reasons why a windfang is no longer built. One reason is the cost, then the front door is supposed to be the eye-catcher and not the WF. Architecturally, it also no longer fits into the landscape.

Now I have seen new houses that have a WF. So there must be a rethink.

That's true, you hardly see a windcatcher like that in a single-family house anymore. But I had one installed and I think it's great. I can leave the door open in winter and no one gets cold right away. Also, all the shoes go onto the shelf in the windcatcher. This way, the house stays nice and clean.
