I have a very large garden and a somewhat crazy idea. Would it be possible to set up a small wind turbine behind the house? I live here in a very windy corner and can definitely imagine that it would be worthwhile. Are there such small systems for "home use" and can it really pay off?

There are wind turbines for the home garden, but they are not very effective - as far as I have informed myself. Since I am not very knowledgeable about this topic, I would like to link you a free calculation program from the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy and Energy System Technology; example: If a system with a diameter of one meter is installed at a height of six meters in a rural area, then at an average wind speed of three meters per second, 38 kilowatt hours of electricity can be expected annually. Enter realistic wind speeds, and you can calculate how much electricity the planned wind turbine would produce.

A single wind turbine is useless, that is simply too little. There has to be a whole number of these turbines standing. I also believe that the purchase is not particularly cheap.

If the garden is large, then several wind turbines can be installed. I do not find that very attractive from a landscape perspective. The building regulations of the cantons are also important.

This is to be understood as a bit of fun. I am firmly convinced that a wind turbine does not bring much. There are high initial costs, and it might pay off in 20 years, if at all.

Oh, I don't think that's bad. Wind energy from your own garden. There just has to be a strong wind blowing. But wind turbines can also lead to disputes with neighbors. So check beforehand here whether it is okay.
