Hello,

we are a community of owners where a modernization/replacement is probably now due.

The building with 8 units is located directly on a busy street.
A few meters from the entrance door leading to the hallway, there is an entrance to the courtyard where the carports are and above them the rear building (belongs to the property) with 2 units is located.

The buildings were constructed in 1998.

Over the years it turned out that the entrance including the courtyard is often used by strangers as a passageway to a street on the other side,
via the staircase in the courtyard to the rear building.
Strangers also often park in the courtyard and since the street is busy, the noise reaches the courtyard well through the entrance.

Now the idea came up to secure the entrance with a gate.

The gate should now block noise/sound, be quiet when opening and closing, possibly include a "wicket door" (for cyclists), and be operable by remote control.

The question now is what can be recommended in this case, what is sensible???

Roll-up gate, sectional gate from above, sectional gate from the side, swing gate left/right, or gate that opens upwards?

Is it all a matter of taste, what are the advantages and disadvantages of each variant?
Thank you for an assessment.

Hello,

what are the space conditions like in the passage? Basically, I would take a standard sectional door; the roller door is more expensive, and a wicket door would only be possible in a side panel. The side sectional door is likely to be highly susceptible to damage in a passage (hitting the panels, dirt in the guide rail).

Regards,
Sebastian

The driveway is approximately

Width: 3.2 m
Height: 3.0 m
Length: 11.0 m

I have heard that a sectional door is generally much quieter and, due to the thicker panels, also better soundproofed!?

Roll-up doors, on the other hand, are very loud and, because they are rather thin by design, not as well soundproofed.

Several cyclists have to pass through the driveway several times daily; wouldn’t a sideways sectional door be more sensible here? Are these really so maintenance-intensive?

Is there also a wicket door option with a standard sectional door?

How are the costs and quality generally to be assessed?
