Hello everyone,

we have received different statements from various heating engineers regarding the installation of ventilation ducts for a controlled residential ventilation system via a central ventilation unit.

1. Installation of the ducts in the concrete ceiling and having the outlets accordingly considered by the ceiling installer.

2. Installation on the floor with core drilling, as the structural engineer has issues with installation in the ceiling and the expensive recesses can be avoided.

What are your experiences with this?

Thank you in advance!

There are both approaches, it depends on the construction of your floor which one is better for your building.

Or suspend the ceiling and install the pipes above it. In concrete ceilings it is rather rare due to thickness, cover, and statics. Variant 2 is done more often.

We have ours in the concrete ceiling. It is the nicer option and less obtrusive on the ceiling than in the floor. The ceiling just needs to be planned accordingly thick, we have 22 cm / 20 cm should also be sufficient.

Depending on the pipeline, the ceilings have to be even thicker. And that can cause structural problems again. Sometimes suspending is more advantageous. We have different variants.

Disadvantage of hanging out, you lose height in the room, which is also not so great.
