Hello

I have completely re-insulated my house, to Minergie standard or somewhat better. Now I actually wanted to install vacuum tube collectors for hot water and possibly heating support. In autumn, an air heat pump will be installed as a replacement for the oil heating. When I calculated the additional effort, I realized that if I calculate honestly, I will not have enough return to amortize the whole thing through the yield. Now I have been wondering how it would be if I install photovoltaic cells. Since the heat pump hopefully has a COP of 3-4, I am now curious about the yield, e.g. for hot water preparation. Has anyone calculated this, does it give more or less watts from the same roof area compared to VRK?

Regards

Hello Joch,

I am not sure if I understand the question correctly, but photovoltaics (sunlight produces electricity) and photothermy (sunlight heats domestic and heating water) are fundamentally different things. Photovoltaics cannot be used to heat water - or are you thinking of producing the electricity for operating the heat pump using photovoltaics? That might be possible, but such a system should be properly designed by a specialist.

Hello
I understand that you cannot directly heat water with photovoltaic cells. But you can with the heat pump. Hence the question about the power per m2. If you calculate a COP of about 3 with the heat pump.

O.K., now I understand your question. Nevertheless, the answer remains that it must be calculated. The heating capacity of the heat pump must match the heat demand of your house, it must be calculated what area the photovoltaic collectors need to have to ensure smooth operation of the heat pump (electrical operation of the pump). Support of the heating capacity in such a way that the photovoltaic power supports the heat pump in bivalent operation (supportive heating of the domestic hot water in the hot water storage tank) is practically probably not possible. Such a system must be designed and calculated by a professional; guesstimating is more like working in the dark.

This question also concerns me and I have not yet come to a final decision. I will soon make an appointment with a specialist. He is supposed to calculate everything once. But it will definitely be expensive.

Prices are also rising here continuously. I hope Dario, you have already received an offer. I am not curious, but I am also interested. It will probably be best to get a professional on site.
