Hello, can someone tell me what this dormer is called? Is there anything to consider with this one? Thanks and regards!

Hello!

I don’t know if [Satteldach-Gaube] is the official term ([Zwerchgiebel]??), but one can assume that this shape is not only prettier but also significantly more expensive than, for example, a dormer with a shed roof.

Furthermore, only "small dormers" are possible in this shape – and 2 small dormers cost almost twice as much as one large one. The improvement in the interior space with such a small dormer is rather marginal as well.

Despite everything: They are pretty, though!

Regards,
Tom.

Thank you very much for the answers. I have also read something about "Giebelgaube". I think they don't look that small at all. - In the photo, double windows can be seen.

Hello,

A gable dormer would also be correct.......

But a transverse gable runs in line with the eaves-side exterior wall. The dormer is a roof structure independent of the exterior wall.

Hello,

This dormer is called a standing dormer, E.Curb has already explained to you the difference compared to the cross gable.

First of all, these types of dormers are a visual "treat," sometimes even a "must" because the responsible building planning office or the applicable development plan does not allow cross gables. Both types of dormers differ only marginally in price, so it might be worth considering installing a cross gable since it tends to open up the space more than a standing dormer – floor-to-ceiling window elements can be installed, allowing you to "play" with the architecture.

The attached graphic shows an example of a cross gable in the entrance area of a semi-detached house.

Kind regards
