Hello forum

This year, we strangely have a large-leaved type of grass in our lawn, what is it and how do we get rid of it so that we only have fine grass again? See photos. Thank you

Hm that could be couch grass.. ?! Please do not use Roundup. That stuff is very hard to get rid of again.

How do you take care of the lawn? How often do you fertilize? To me, it looks like the lawn is fertilized too little, and as a result, the more sensitive grasses are being displaced by the hardier varieties.

Best regards

Hello Sabine

I have to agree with you, we haven’t scarified or fertilized yet this year. The reason is that we currently have a somewhat larger construction project in the garden. The terrace is being redesigned, flower beds are being created, mowing edges set, a tree felled, etc. In the midst of this chaos, we haven’t given our lawn its annual treatment yet.

Normally, after scarifying, I use a fertilizer with weed killer from Compo. Will that be enough? A lawn mower robot will be installed in July.

Does a weed killer help against couch grass?

This is couch grass. Congratulations. Best to dig it out. Fertilizing and scarifying don't help much against it. This type of grass usually grows faster than the surrounding lawn. If you are a bit consistent, you can get rid of the couch grass temporarily. But it will probably come back again as airborne seed. Regards
