Hello everyone,

we intend to remove the old covering from our hallway (6m2) and guest WC (1.5m2) and have new screed laid. I have now received an offer "by phone" amounting to €1400. It is an area on the ground floor with a construction height of max. 6cm (rather less).

Is this offer reasonable or completely off the mark? On the internet, I have read that the price per m2 for design screed is around €100. With my offer, we would be at about €175/m2 for normal screed.

Is the removal included? I also find it too high - but be aware that ONLY 8 sqm simply are not an attractive construction site and the company will surely make you pay for having to provide so few people and tools, instead of sending them directly to a larger/more lucrative site. This is also often referred to here in the forum as a defensive offer...

Thank you for the quick response. I will take care of the removal. On the phone, he sounded relatively willing to take on the "project." However, if I only calculate the material costs myself, I expect a maximum of €400. With an estimated working time of 2-3 hours, I come to €333.33 "hourly wage." Quite hefty. Or are the costs higher than I estimated?

For 8 sqm you can be glad if anyone comes at all.

Is this a joke now? 8m2 screed costs a hundred bucks. Add a bit of insulation and you're at 300 euros.

BUT no company in the world wants to do that. I would do it myself if I were you, it's nothing special?

YOUR offer is a small quantity offer. Usually at least double the price, rather more.

If no underfloor heating is to be installed, I would do it myself. Dry screed also works without heavy equipment and waiting times for drying. If it is an old building with low build height, you can also get more insulation underneath than with concrete screed. There are also good instructions for both on video platforms and some online shops of DIY stores.
